Filler Reversal
Filler reversal is a procedure used to dissolve unwanted hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, typically performed when overcorrection, asymmetry, or complications occur. The primary agent used for this process is hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, allowing the body to reabsorb it quickly. This treatment is often used in cases where filler results are unsatisfactory or when medical complications arise.
Hyaluronidase works rapidly, with results usually visible immediately and duration of action of 24 to 48 hours due to it’s potency. Multiple treatments may be needed for complete resolution. It’s important to note that hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero, and not on other types of fillers. While generally safe, allergic reactions to hyaluronidase are possible, so a patch test is sometimes recommended before the procedure. This option provides a reliable way to correct or undo dermal filler injections, offering patients peace of mind.
